Four Tips To Implement Education Technology

1. Set Goals For Education Technology

Before beginning your technology rollout, sit down with the faculty and set clear objectives.
These goals will become the benchmarks against which you measure the success of the adoption. By being very clear on exactly what you want to achieve, you will be able to implement the adoption more effectively and measure its success more accurately. Start by setting overarching long-term goals and then breaking them down into mini-goals.

2. Create A Time-Bound Plan

Once your goals are set in place, layout a plan for implementation that takes you toward your overarching goals in the time that best suits you. So, for example, is your plan to incorporate virtual reality tools into your science department? You could start by assigning a VR-ready HP laptop, as well as a Reverb headset, to each educator in that department by a specific date, then have the teachers trained upon the equipment within two days after that, introduce the students to it the following week, etc. The idea is to introduce the technology slowly and then ramp up the usage as everyone becomes more familiar with it.

3. Communicate Clearly

Implementing any change requires clear, open communication and this needs to flow in two directions. Always ensure that you have communicated tasks and goals clearly to staff and that they are passing information on to their students. Then, always make sure that channels are open for feedback to flow the other way. Both among the staff and in the student body, there will always be those who are quicker to adopt the technology and those who are more reticent. Open communication channels will help the fast-adopting advocates to assist the less confident and bring them onto onboard.

4. Foster A Collaborative Environment With Education Technology In Mind

Make it known to everybody that this change is a shared adventure that you’re all on together. Everyone is learning simultaneously and contributing to the improvement of individual and collective results. Enlist the help of the early adopters to champion the new tools and help ease the transition. At the same time, encourage those who are more reluctant to ask questions and engage with the tools in an explorative manner, with no pressure. In this way, the challenges of adoption can be overcome through collective effort.
