Blockbuster acquisitions consolidate HPE’s strength in converged infrastructure and flash storage

Nov 28, 2017

Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s (HPE) acquisitions earlier in 2017 of SimpliVity for USD$650 million and Nimble Storage for USD$1.2 billion mean that its resellers in South Africa will be able to go to market with an even more compelling portfolio of flash storage and converged infrastructure solutions for mid-market customers.

That’s the word from Sascha Schmidt-Ries, product manager for HPE Storage at local HPE distributor, Tarsus Distribution. He says that the two acquisitions strengthen HPE’s position in the fastest-growing segments of the enterprise computing market, enabling resellers to offer enterprises a more complete set of business solutions.

“Together, the acquisitions advance HPE’s strategy of making IT simpler and more efficient through software-defined, hybrid and flash infrastructure” says Schmidt-Ries. “They enable resellers to provide mid-sized and large enterprises with data centre solutions that combine the agility and economics of the cloud, with the control and governance of on-premises IT.”

With Nimble products and solutions part of the HPE portfolio, HPE resellers will be able to offer one of the industry’s most comprehensive ranges of flash storage solutions across every customer segment. Nimble’s flash for entry to midrange segments complements HPE’s scalable midrange to high-end HPE 3PAR solutions and affordable HPE MSA products.

Nimble’s products are designed for customers who need flash-optimised data services, including all-flash, hybrid-flash, and multicloud support at entry to midrange price points. Nimble also brings cloud-based predictive analytics to HPE storage. Built for enterprise hyper-converged infrastructure, Nimble Storage complements the HPE SimpliVity acquisition.

HPE SimpliVity combines all an enterprise’s IT infrastructure and advanced data services in a single, integrated hyperconverged solution. It brings together HPE's best-in-class infrastructure, automation and cloud management software with SimpliVity's industry-leading software-defined data management platform.

“HPE SimpliVity dramatically simplifies IT by combining infrastructure and advanced data services for virtualised workloads onto the bestselling server platform in the market,” Schmidt-Ries says. “It also delivers a complete set of advanced functionalities for efficient virtualised workloads at a fraction of the cost and complexity of today’s traditional infrastructure stack.”
